Ancient Greece. Alexander III The Great of Macedon, 336-323 BC. Bronze drachm, struck just after his death, 323-319, Miletos mint. The front depicts the head of Alexander as Herakles right, wearing lionskin / The back depicts AΛEΞANΔΡOY ("Of Alexander"), between club and bow in bowcase, grain-ear in exergue.
Literary/scholastic references: Price 2102; HGC 3.1, 950a for type. Measures 18.5 mm, weighs 5.76 grams. Grades Good VF, with excellent style. Dark olive-green tone with reddish earthen deposits. Ex London Ancient Coins. This would make an excellent addition to any collection!
