Ancient Roman Provincial. Macrinus, 217-218 AD. Bronze AE24 coin struck at Deultum, Thrace. The front depicts the radiate and cuirassed bust of Macrinus facing right, inscription IMP C M OPEL SEV MACRINVS AV / The back depicts Zeus seated left, holding patera and long scepter; eagle at his feet left, inscription COL FL PAC DEVLT around.
Measures 23.9 mm, weighs 6.43 grams. Literary/scholastic references: SNG Bulgaria 101-3 var. (obv. legend ending AVG); Jurukova 58 var. (same); Varbanov 2115var. (same); BMC 2 var. (same) for type. Grades aVF. Rare variety! Although this obverse legend isn't listed in Varbanov, it is known to both Bobokov (SNG Bulgaria) and Jurukova, but not for this reverse type. Ex New Jersey collection.
